About Crispin

After leaving Oundle School in 1968, I studied painting and drawing at Norwich Arts school and the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, later studying etching at the City Lit and Morley Colleges.

After graduating from the Byam Shaw school of art in London in 1973 I did a series of different jobs but always kept painting. I lived in an Acme house in Hackney and rented studio space from this renowned artists environment.

In 1983, I came back to Northamptonshire to work as a full-time artist. I am now based in the village of Kings Cliffe and have exhibited in London, Peterborough, Leicester and Cambridge and also shown drawings in Viersen, Germany.

My work consists mainly of oil paintings and drawings and etchings and until recently, my inspiration has been landscape, but now I am working on a series inspired by figures in motion.

In my work I want to maintain an abstract independence between form and content. My aim being to work on the borderline between abstraction and figuration rather than copying nature. A recent review said "Crispin’s work bursts with colour; his use of free lines encompass the page and draw in the viewer. A must see exhibition....."
